Official Gibraltar Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Association

This is the official Gibraltar Brazilian Jiu JItsu Association (GBJJA), as recognised by the Gibrltar Sports & Leisure Authority (GSLA).

GBJJA is proudly promoting and supporting the development of the sport of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu in Gibraltar.

Club

It is important to note if a club is operating as a business or non for profit, the Association will conduct initial due diligence to ensure that they have an active registration with Gibraltar companies house and possess a valid OFT business licence for Gibraltar.

Club criteria to include:

  • Qualified Instructors (min. purple belt)
  • First Aid certifications for all instructors and coaches. An official valid public liability insurance policy.
  • If the club is teaching juniors (under the age of 18) they will also need to meet GSLA Safeguarding criteria.
  • Police Vetting forms for all instructors and coaches (application by the Local Gibraltar Authorities being the RGP, Royal Gibraltar Police or if Spanish Resident a Spanish police vetting to be produced)
  • Safeguarding certifications for all instructors and coaches in line with GSLA Safeguarding criteria.

The GBJJA will offer advice on risk assessments for premises to review and recommend safety considerations.

£50

per year

  • Access to apply for shared facility use (if available) for the purpose of GBJJA development sessions. If a profit-making entity, then access to the facilities are at commercial unit rates (TBD depending on property type and size).
  • Access to GBJJA funded seminars and events etc.
  • Support from the association with arranging events, seminars and competitions.
  • Support to organise coaching courses, seminars and grading’s.

Full Adult

 Full adult membership criteria: 

  • A Gibraltar National.
  • A resident subject to proof of residing in Gibraltar.
  • Being in an active employment contract with a Gibraltarian registered business. 

Proof of eligibility to include Gibraltar ID cards or an active employment contract.  Work contracts and ID Cards subject to periodic review.

  • Discounted access to GBJJA funded seminars and events related to the betterment of the BJJ & Grappling sport.
  • Voting rights at the annual general meeting (AGM)
  • Eligibility to be selected as part of Team Gibraltar for applicable events. Subject to IF eligibility.
  • Apply for individual level support from the association to attend competitions where they act as a representative of Team Gibraltar. Subject to IF eligibility and GSLA Financial Assistance criteria.

Full Junior

Current BJJ practitioner who is a Gibraltarian national and/or whose parents/guardians are resident or being in an active employment contract with a Gibraltarian registered business.  Eligibility to represent Gibraltar in international competition.  Gibraltar nationals based on International Federation rules and regulations.

  • Eligibility to be selected as part of Team Gibraltar for applicable events.
  • Discounted access to GBJJA funded seminars and events related to the betterment of the BJJ & Grappling sport.
  • Option to nominate a club member who qualifies under full membership to be considered for a committee position at a future vote
  • Apply for individual level support from the association to attend competitions where they act as a representative of Team Gibraltar. Subject to IF eligibility and GSLA Financial Assistance criteria.

Junior Associate

Current BJJ practitioner who is not a Gibraltarian national, resident of Gibraltar.

Discounted access to GBJJA funded seminars and events related to the betterment of the BJJ & Grappling sport.

Social

Open to anyone that currently a resident of Gibraltar or being in an active employment contract with a Gibraltarian registered business.

  • Eligible to attend the AGM and show support to the BJJ community and sport development within Gibraltar.
  • Discounted access to GBJJA funded seminars and events related to the betterment of the BJJ & Grappling sport.

Associate Adult

Current BJJ practitioner who is not a Gibraltarian national or resident of Gibraltar.

Discounted access to GBJJA funded seminars and events related to the betterment of the BJJ & Grappling sport.

GBJJA Annual General Meeting (AGM)

The AGM will be held on end of October/beginning of November. This is an open invitation to those that fit the above eligibilty criteria for any type of membership. Please be mindful when voting for the committee it will only be those eligible for full adult memebrship that will be entitled to a vote.
